Jeff
phenominal tracking of stats/ I love it/ you are the man,my hero/ I wish I could play regularly and track stats which then enables one to practice weakness and make it a positive/ advice for anyone who can play regularly then please model your stat taking after Jeff, just like I 'coach' you to in playing lesson 1/ this makes the game more fun, less complicated as you see progress and can ID areas to get better immediately.
Jeff as we agreed on the phone the other day I will get to Ohio for clinic early next spring and we will improve scoring and putting - that is a promise.
stay in touch over winter/ practice pendulum stroke we talked about indoors/ if you get a chance to come to florida please call and set up a lesson/ would be a pleasure to get started on 09.
thanks again for wonderful thread/ I will use it on upcoming emails to some of our new customers to show how it is supposed to be done.

Well, winter is upon us and about the only thing I can do is prepare for next season. My indoor practice facility is under repair til late December so there's no place close for me to practice.

Therefore, for this off-season my focus will be on weight training. Since the golf swing relies on a stable lower body and strong core muscles, my focus has been on abdomen, hips, buttocks, and lower back, as well as some running in order to strengthen my legs. I want to improve the strength of my lower body so that I have a more stable foundation. I want to stengthen my hips and lower back so that I can turn my core with greater force. This should add control to my swing, and it should allow me to swing faster since the muscles that rotate the torso will be stronger. I'll let ya'll know how its working once I get a club back in hand.

Jeff,

Wondered if you followed a golf specific exercise program, or do you mainly use a standard weight training program? Maybe you do both. Do you use free weights or something like a bowflex machine?

This is a great time for it, I'm lucky we can still usually play here but I have to ramp up the exercise as well. Have the time for it now that I don't have in the summer, and it helps me work off the sweets. Kids are coming over to make baklava this weekend and we still have the cookies to bake. And our first winter storm is on the way for the weekend.

I better get off my rear and go work up a lather. Might get a round in tomorrow, and that could be it for a while. Hope your training goes well, and the weather will break for you so you can sneak out a bit.

Best,
kb

Kurt,

I am doing exercises to strengthen those muscles most needed to turn the torso with force. I am not following any particular program, I'm just choosing some exercises and weight training that will strengthen the aforementioned muscles. Some of the exercises are things I can do at home, like standing tall, balancing on one leg, while lifting the other leg back or to the side. This exercise is used by dancers to strengthen buttocks and hips. I also do a form of situps that works all parts of the abs. But I also work out at the gym, using machines to strengthen my lower back, abdomen, hips, and side torso. You could use free weights for all of these but I figured I might as well go to the gym. I also run/walk at the gym to build cardio and strengthen my legs.

Hope that answers your questions. Love that baklava! Enjoy!

Jeff

Jeff,

That sounds good, a lot of variety. Can't seem to keep a gym going out here, except Curves...those lucky ladies. Hope they can survive, my wife really enjoys it faithfully this time of year.

I pretty much stick to a dynamic warm-up, stretch bands and recumbent bike year round. That's to kickstart the day or play golf. Have now added some bodyweight exercise and the Swing Reaction System to really work up a lather and do some needed strengthening. It takes more time, but every year the urge to hibernate grows stronger for me. Once I get going and start feeling better, I look forward to doing it.

I have the workout DVD and try to do it at least a couple of times a week. I get sore as heck to begin with, but it doesn't take long to get a little bounce back in the step and it's fun. A half hour on the bike to get warm followed by this 20 minute workout literally kicks my fat butt and gives the dogs a good laugh as well.

Just what the baker ordered!

Best,
