I hope you can relate to my story. I became a SS about a year and a half ago. Prior to SS, I had gone down the road of golf swings (Traditional, Natural, Single Axis, Lever Power, Gravity Golf, etc.) - my shelves are filled with books, videos, dvd's and the garage has seen most golf improvement clubs and devices ...

After 4-5 months of SS, I lost my commitment or didn't understand it properly or something else ... and I went back to a traditional swing - something I hadn't done in 10 years. With a Ben Hogan Collection DVD set, I started to relearn a traditional swing. And I started seeing success. With all the time I had invested in learning the golf swing, I got back in the groove. My scores were in the mid-90's but dropped to the mid-80's quickly, before rewarding me with a couple of high 70's. The thing is, I was here once before and I was to discover why I left.

I left the traditional swing years ago because the amount of time and effort needed to maintain the swing was too much!!! And, quess what, 10 years later hadn't changed a thing. I now understood the swing better but I couldn't and wouldn't invest endless hours practicing - been there, done that ... and it contributed to a broken marriage and a almost cost me a job. As a result, I stopped playing golf in December 2007.

My birthday is in March and my older brother came from VA to spend time with me and wanted to take me out for a round of golf. I hadn't played in 3+ months and my anxiety rose as his arrival date approached. The week before my birthday, I went to the driving range and had was not pleased with trying to hit balls with the traditional swing - too many swing thoughts, bad timing, and a jerky swing at best. A day later, I tried chipping and pitching and the first was skulled, the second I hit fat. I was devastated since this was the best part of my game and it had only been 3+ months!
I decided to try something different, I decided to try SS.

My first SS pitch, was a little off target but found the green. The second shot was straighter and finished closer to the flag. At that point, I told myself I would play golf on my birthday using SS. I am a good putter and if I could bump it around the course and find the green, I wouldn't back up play on the course.

I went to the driving range three more times and hit approximately a bucket and a half before my birthday round. We played a challenging course and, considering my time off, teed off from the white tees. The first hole is a tricky par 5 that requires a carry over two separate hazard areas. I birdie the first hole and smiled as I just committed to the SS. My score? 40 on the front and 40 on the back for an 80. I was both surprised and encouraged. It is now two weeks later and I still enthused.

Where to from here? I am signing up for the San Jose clinic (April 6) and considering trying to become a certified instructor. If SS was able to get through my blocked head and doubts, maybe I can help someone get to the same spot sooner. Doug.

Hi Doug,

Welcome back to Symple Swing. Great post. I appreciate the story of your quest.

Symple Swing really does work but that doesn't mean it's easy. It's easier than any other swing but it still takes some work and commitment. Sometimes thee more types of swings you've tried that more difficult it is to get rid of those old swing thoughts.

Your experience is not uncommon. Many guys go and try the latest "flavor of the month" swing (no backswing swing, stack and tilt, etc.) and a few months later they come back to Symple Swing this time making a real commitment and going on to real success.

Symple Swing is really quite easy to teach. You just have to understand the basic principles and help students identify their mistakes. It's really a lot of fun because the student success rate is so high. The key is giving students the information they need to "self diagnose" their swings. I look forward to working with you.
