News and Notes

We have had tremendous response to our Playing Lesson #1 and Playing Lesson #2 with Student DVD's. It was a lot of work but we are having a lot of great feedback from Symple Swingers all over the world who benefited from our latest instructional DVD's.

The Playing Lesson (Part 2) on the course segment is filled with swing instruction, pre shot routine tips and mental preparation suggestions. We are very pleased to offer you this 2 hours of great instruction, fun golf and beautiful scenery. We're confident that this DVD will help you generate even longer and straighter shots.

January Golf Tip
I have had a lot of lessons lately and had to stress the importance of getting the right hand and arm out of the swing. In fact, during Playing Lesson #2 with Mike M. we had to really work with Mike to relax the right hand and arm. He made some very astute observations during our lesson that I think need repeating. Most of us are right hand handed and many swing faults are the result of your right hand and arm trying to overpower the left side during the swing.

The left side is the dominant force in the uncoiling of the upper body. The left arm stays straight to allow for lever power from club head to left shoulder. So, getting the right hand and arm out of the swing takes some concentration, as you see in the Lesson video Mike M. does a great job during the round but had some struggles on the practice range getting used to swinging the club with upper body uncoiling and not hitting the ball with right hand ('slapping' at it).

Here are some teaching points to speed up the leaning process.
1st - The right hand grip tension should be very relaxed. I told Mike M. the right hand 'lays' on the club. It is not responsible for the take away in any way. I mentioned to Mike M. that the right hand is so very light -"almost like holding a bird" and he responded " well I have never held a bird" - so I realized another analogy is in order. The right hand should be on the club like your holding an egg and not to break it. This takes getting used to but it truly helps.

2nd - At the top of your backswing stop and check your right arm. Make sure the right arm is RELAXED. This means there should be no tension in the triceps (the back of the upper arm) and no 'flying elbow' or chicken wing as it is called. The right elbow is pointing down ward and the right arm fairly close to your side. It is relaxed and again the right hand is only on the club to hold it and guide it not to swing it.

3rd - Feel the downswing thru the left side/ meaning the uncoiling of the upper body starts and the left shoulder (and left side) is the pull force, not the right arm pushing. PLEASE do the SWOOSH DRILL many times to feel this correctly. Remember the swoosh drill is done without the right hand on the club on the downswing.

4th - Feel the finish position of the swoosh drill. This is where you should finish with both hands on the club. Do not let the right hand get involved in the finish of your swing - it is what cause hooks - so uncoil, pull with the left side of your core and let the momentum of your swing finish high above your left ear not around body down by your left elbow because the right hand rolled over on top of left hand. Finish high and watch your ball go straight at your target.

Take care and look forward to helping you when ever you may need it.
