FEEDBACK FROM SYMPLE SWINGERS We continue to get great feedback from all levels of golfers. Beginners rave about how easy Symple Power Swing is to learn and how much fun they are having. The high handicappers who have been struggling forever now have the biggest smiles as they are now finding more distance and accuracy while shooting the best scores ever. The low handicappers have been a very pleasant surprise to us as we are getting amazing reports of best rounds ever, hitting every fairway in regulation, more greens etc. We’d love to hear about how you’re doing with Symple Swing. Please send any success stories to joe@simplegolf.com or mike@simplegolf.com. On the other hand, if you’d struggling at all please feel free to send us a note or give call a call. We are very serious about helping you become successful with Symple Swing.
TWO DAY PLAYING LESSON IN ORLANDO I had a wonderful time with a lesson this week, working with Tom G from Va. We did a 2 day school, played 18 each day. First day was learning, Tom is a 23 hcp. He hit a lot of good shots but really had to work on getting to top of backswing position correctly (unlearning the Jim Furyk move at the top) so we really concentrated on getting to the top with flat wrist, left arm parallel to target line, no right hand and arm power, uncoiling with upper body etc.
On day 2 we warmed up on the range and spent an hour fine tuning and reviewing then to the course. Tom hit the best shots of his life, hit 14 out of 14 fairways!!!!!! Made 7 pars (missed 2 makeable birdie putts) and shot mid 80’s. I could not believe how good, how pure he hit the ball. I was amazed and I think he was too. He is going to Scotland in a couple of weeks and is going to be able to play golf – I know he will have a great time.
We also worked on some course management and some of the mental aspects of golf, specifically how to mentally play a consistent round of golf and keep focused for 18 holes.
SEPTEMBER SWING TIP - MINI-MATCHES This mental tip is one that can help everyone ( it even helped me as I played with Tom) . This tip can be especially helpful if you are trying to break 90 (or whatever score) for the first time.
Play the 18 holes but break in up into 6 mini-matches. Play 6 three hole matches with yourself. Box off the first 3 holes – then depending on your current playing level give yourself a goal for each three hole match.
With Tom we made his goal – as he shoots in the mid 90’s – was to be 2 to 3 over for each box. So a par and 2 bogeys/ or 3 bogeys/ or 2 pars and a double/ etc. (If your goal is bogey golf then your goal would be to be 3 over or better in each three hole match)
If you meet or better your goal for that three hole match (bogey golf, par golf or whatever), then you win that particular match. If you fail to meet or better your goal then you lose that match.
This helps keep you focused on one hole at a time, one match at a time. This stops you from getting too frustrated because after every 3 hole match you basically get to start over with a new match and a renewed focus which should help you to stay relaxed not get too frustrated.
Tom went 2 over/ 3 over/ 2 over for the first 3 boxes – for a 7 over 43 – this helped him keep a smooth swing on every shot – especially every tee box as he became confident that one good swing here and I have a chance to get a par or bogey and keep my concentration for this ‘box’ or 3 hole tournament.
Your mental focus is most important. The mini-match concept will help you stay focused and not lose concentration if you make a couple of bad shots. It helps you keep your swing smooth and not get tight. All too often we have one bad hole and then get to thinking we’ve “ruined our round” and the play deteriorates from there.
Try this and see if you play a better overall round of golf as you are able to set short term goals and gain confidence using SPS.
As usual let us know if you need anything or have any questions.
