From: Brad@.... Subject: Symple Warm-Up Date: June 5, 2007 2:53:50 PM EDT To: joe@simplegolf.com Cc: mike@simplegolf.com Hey Guys,
I have a nine hole league match on Mondays. After shooting 71 last Thurs., Mon. I warmed up with a small bucket and people were stopping to watch me hit. Hitting high draws with the driver, and high fades at will. Flushing short irons with little effort. Went straight to the course and did not hit five shots of this caliber the whole round.(40). Didn't hit it terrible, just not as good as I know I can. Hit one big pull for a double bogey. I am fairly certain when it counts I start firing my hips. An age old question, how do I get it to the course? I am getting close, maybe I just need to be patient. Thanks.
Our reply next day
Brad,
Analyze the situation or arena in which you were best performing. My point to make is knowing why you are 'perfect' on the range and not on the course.
On the range describe your tension or relaxation level. How hard are you trying?? On the range vs on the course? Competition and the will to win is what drives us to excel. So what is the solution and there is a solution?
I do not know you well enough to know what makes you tick/ a sports psychologist can work with you or explain the reason why we 'change' or tense up when competing.
But you can take it to the course by understanding what happens when in competition. Heart is pumping faster so you must be cognizant of this and work to slow down and relax. Adrenaline is firing thru you so you must relax by breathing and concentrating on grip tension or lack of tension.
Wanting to execute is one thing but doing it in golf is another. the closest physical action to golf in sports is shooting a basketball / throwing a baseball and hitting a baseball. All muscles movements done at a very high rate of speed but NEVER done with any tension or tightness in muscles, like lifting weights or any power sport.
Why do great golfers say some of their best rounds of golf where in the late afternoon and after having a few beers went out and shot their best score ever.
Just Relaxed and focused on just hitting good shots with good swings. NOT 'I have got to get this close to make birdie... he hit his close so I have to really try hard" ... tension builds... got to win.... try harder.... etc
Learn to 'feel your breathing' when on the range or describe your best round of golf to me - not in how good you hit it but in how you felt while doing it............. Learn to play that way - relaxed, focused, no tension, full of confidence and not concerned with what other people were doing / just focused on relaxing and having fun knowing that you have the ability to hit great shots and have great rounds all the time.
Call me if you need to go deeper or better explanation/let me know Mike

Hey Guys,
Just a quick update. Monday evening league, nine holes, nine GIR, even par round. Greens at this course are not good, missed four birdies inside six ft., three putted a par five for par. Snap hooks are gone, just a hard draw once and a while. Getting there now. Thanks again.
WOW!!

It's 2:34 am Hawaii time and I can't sleep feeling guilty. I stumbled onto your website a few days ago. Started reading your forum and found Diagnostics Checklist For Symple Swing. Got my 8I and Driver and went over every move in my living room. Also looked at the free video on your site and practiced that also. After a few day of living room golf, the wife got tired of that really quickly and made me a tee time. Shot an 82!
I have been shooting between 95 and 105 for the last 2years. My problem is I would have a couple of birdies and pars but also have a few double pars from OB tee shots. Today didn't have not one OB. Had some pushes straight left but always could hit again.
So after this post I will be ordering your program. I feel that's the least I can do for having my best round of golf ever. Mahalo for the best fun I've ever had on the course. Aloha Rob
Wow again
Thanks for the updates __________________________________________________________
Now on to this month's Swing Tip
ALIGNMENT KEYS AND TIPS
Hitting the ball straight or where you aim it is one of the main benefits of Symple Swing as we all know already.
Making sure we hit the ball where you aim it is done by several keys and tips.
1- Once you define your target line, then make sure your feet, hips and shoulders are lined up parallel to this line. Have a friend put a club across your chest to check your shoulder aim (easiest way to hit a shot off line is to have shoulders open making for a pull or shoulders closed producing a push).
2- Make sure your front elbow is rotated to target. So if you have a slight bend of the elbow your club face stays square.
3- Check your Divot. Is it going down your intended target line? If so you're on target, if not then by also determining ball flight gives you all the information in which to correct.
Example - if your divot is left (for a right handed golfer) and your ball went left resulting in a pull - was it bad alignment at address? Or was it a case of opening hips and shoulders too soon before contact so stay square to the ball as you hit it.
Example - if divot is left and it is a hook - right hand is too active and 'rolled' over left hand thru impact closing the club face so get the right hand out of the impact zone and not let it roll over - finish with hands down the target line.
Example - if divot is left and ball is a slice then - you have come out side in with swing (casting) so check elbow at address and top of backswing position as you are coming over the top - probably right hand and arm again providing power so relax right side and swing the club with upper torso not hands especially right hand and arm.
Example - if divot is to the right- resulting in a push you have come too far from the inside and you probably started to far inside on the on take away - let your shoulders take the club away not your hands/ especially your right hand/ so work on seeing and feeling your left arm parallel to target line at top of backswing - not inside the line with hands back by your right shoulder/ keep hands and arms extended away from chest just like they are at address.
On last thing. Get out on the grass (not your front lawn) and PRACTICE MAKING STRAIGHT DIVOTS. You'll be amazed at how much this will help you. It will help insure a a properly aligned downswing and a straight shot.
Good luck and as usual any questions call or email Joe (joe@simplegolf.com/203-798-8489) or myself Mike O'Leary - Simple Golf Director of Instruction (407 340 9420)
