Typically, I alternate between putting/chipping and pitching full swing sessions. Also, I try to play practice holes during the week, time and money permitting. A basic chipping/putting session consists of 15 min short putts (up to three feet) and then gradually increase (over 15 min) distance to about 20 feet. I'll then spend 10 min on longer putts, in the 30 - 50 foot range. With the long putts, my concern is lag and two putting. After this, I put in 30 min. chipping from different lies.
The pitching/full swing days, I start with the Iron Cross drill to stretch and then work short to long pitches with each wedge using the feet together stance, which usually takes about 20-30 min. I'll then do about 20-30 min of full swings from the power set stance. During this latter session, I'll only use two-three clubs, say, a short iron/wedge, a mid-iron, and a long iron or FW wood. I'll practice the driver 1-2 times per week. Finally, I'll play a range round for 20 - 30 min. With my full swing practices, I begin with the chipping swing and gradually lengthen it to the full swing. (Also, I'm beginning to workout again--I've got to lose weight!--so I'm stretching a bit in the mornings and walking in the PM, if it's still light outside, and I'm back to strength training, which I did religiously for 20+ yr and stopped doing three years ago. Also, I walk when I play unless I absolutely have to ride in a cart.)
Unfortunately my work schedule doesn't permit me to practice like this except during the summer months, when the days are longer and my work hours are less. (Hmm, maybe that's why I saw such an improvement in my game last July and August .) The other 9 - 10 months of the year, I practice what I can when I can.

cb44 great info and serious practice plan - I really look forward to working with you in raleigh at the end of the month. Keep up the good work - remember all this positive work also builds confidence and trust - ie relax over all shots with no tension = repeated good shots talk in a week or so thanks for the post Mike O |

Thanks, Mike. The check will be in the mail Monday, and I look forward to seeing you and the other SSers on the 28th. Also, I checked their web site--very nice place, much nicer than what I'm used to! |
