Been working on the Symple swing for the last two weeks with varying success, just couldn't get the backswing right, just felt like the arms needed to be involved to get the club more than an inch off the ground. Finally discovered a feeling that works and played my best game of golf in 6 months. If I feel like the tops of my arms are connected to my chest and then just turn my left shoulder back everything seems to be automatic, the right arm is forced to fold on its own at the correct point. Top of backswing looks great and is more consistent, just need to work on left hand hinge not cupping (need to feel like the wrist is hinging more down than up). Other problem I have is the right leg seems to break down on the backswing. Really needed to feel like the ball of the right foot was pushing hard into ground, doing this seems to make a really solid base. Incorporating the above two items into my swing and I hit the ball consistently from the middle of the club and straighter than ever before.
Feeling very optimistic about my golf game now.

I always wondered if you should keep the arm or arms connected to the chest.
I wonder what Joe or Mike think about it, hey Ill try it on the range tomarrow. |

Hi par69,
That "connected" feeling is just the right feeling. That's exactly what we're trying to get everybody to do. That is what the "core power" that we keep talking about really means. Turn your core but keep your arms connected.
To get the left wrist flat try practicing the Pre-Cock Drill http://simpleswing.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~565.asp That should help.
To get the correct feel with the back foot try the Back Heel Up Drill http://simpleswing.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~326.asp
Let me know how those drills work for you.

Joe,
The Back Heel Up Drill does the trick. I was also cocking the back knee way to far in so it had no stability. Heel Up and less extreme cocking has the lower body quiet.
Regarding the connected feeling should have added two further points: 1) works best if I try to make as big/wide an arc as possible. If I don't do this then the club comes way to far inside and I get an awesome hook. 2) connected feeling works best if you feel the arms on top of the chest at address, as that seems to make the rear elbow hinge automatic.
Haven't tried the pre wrist cock drill yet. Using the BS Waggle to check wrist cock, I can now feel it when its wrong on the swing. |

I tried keeping the arms connected yesterday at the range, it did not seem to work very well for me. It seemed like I had trouble getting a full siwg motion. I know you proplably have to let them loose at the end, but trying to stay connected just didn't seem to work for me at least.
