After reaching the correct top of the backswing position, what is the best downswing cue ? On the DVD it talks about 'turn and whip' or 'turn and return'.
More specificically should we be thinking of driving the left shoulder down the target line, or pulling the butt of the club down the target line, or replacing the front shoulder with the left shoulder ?
I tend to pull or turn my shoulders off line during the downswing phase of the swing causing a pull.

| I don't know what's "best". I know that I try to remember to start the club down on the same path it took to get there because if I don't, I'm likely to swing around my body. It never helped me to think of pulling the club "down". It has been more helpful to think in terms of retracing the wide arc I tried to use to get to that position. |

for me, whipping trough the target area. left shoulder/arm pulling trough.
I would focus on the target and ball trajectory ( that is what I do), as swingthoughts isnt good in the long run. for me that makes more sense as it is what people do in other sports. No one in tennis is thinking, left shoulder down, hit ball. its all balltrajectory and target.
Re-working the swing then one work on the details tog et the proper position but when playing, target and trajectory.
Giving up trying to meet goals and outcomes this year.

Hi Harvey,
I don't think there is one best top of backswing feeling because we all "feel" different things during our swings.
I concentrate on swinging the club (with my left (leading) side) NOT hitting the ball. That's a big deal for me because I had been a right side "hitter" for almost 40 years.
I just make a Set-Up Waggle http://simpleswing.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~332.asp or two and then swing the club back using my core (shoulders, chest & abdomen) just like I practiced with the Set-Up Waggle. I try to make a smooth, relatively slow backswing and stay loose enough so it feels like I actually start my backswing just before the club reaches the top of my backswing. Starting the downswing with my core (and a tiny hip motion forward) creates a little lag with the arms lagging behind the turning of the torso creating that whipping feeling.
