Hi all
Pre SS I use to putt by trying to die the ball at the hole.
Today I left 2 putts 2 inches short (after telling myself "dont leave it short", another 2 which if I took the break out of by being more agressive may have dropped.
Any tips to get the ball to the hole?

hit the ball harder next time. and when telling yourself stuff, tell yourself, back side of hole. if your telling yourself dont leave it short, you will leave it short as it is a command to your brain to do just that.
always tell your brain what to do.
From 11hcp to tourpro level 2009? Got it how to swing Symple. Same swing with superb puttning. Low 70 scores here I come! |

Think Mike talks about the "look at the hole" drill as you putt on the DVD. Take the focus off the ball and place it back on the target by aligning, setting up and then looking at the hole as you make the putt. Don't think I've ever tried this on the course before, but have spent some time with it in practice to build some confidence.
At the clinic last year Chuck had us spot aligning our putts, everything really, and trying to roll the ball over the "spot" is another good way of getting your focus away from hitting the ball and back towards the cup. I like to pick a spot slightly ahead of the ball with the full swing as well and try to swing through the spot, it really helps my ball striking at times.
Here's a pretty good explanation of these ideas, controversial for sure but maybe worth a try with some practice. Seems to work well with the SPS system.

Hi jownz,
Since Symple Putting is really, really accurate a short putts you should feel free to go after putts much more aggressively because your likelihood of making the comeback putts is so much higher than most of your opponents.
To get the ball to the hole, practice your short putts until feel like you absolutely can make anything 5 feet and under. Then when you have longer putts you'll have no trouble giving the putts a good run because you'll have confidence you can make any comeback putts. If you leave a putt short you're throwing away a birdie (or par or whatever) opportunity for no reason.
BTW, make sure you closely watch any putts that go by the hole. Then you'll have all the info you need to make those comeback putts.

Thanks to everyone for the input.
Putting more aggressively now, and its all good.
36 putts with a 15 foot bird on the 18th was my last round.
The course I usually play is only 6223 yards from the champ tees, but the greens are what protect the course from people scoring.
