Hi
I am just getting into SS but am having some problems with alignment. I have noted that my ball tends to fly right - I am right handed.
I don't slice so originally I thought that it was from an open face. however I have been checking my alignment - shaft on the ground on the range and I realise I am aligning right with everything. I have now got my feet sorted out parallel to target, checked my hips - also OK but cannot align my shoulders. they always point right of target at address.
I can turn them to parallel but think that they will just return to their old position during the swing.
So tonight on the range I decided to correct this by opening my stance a lot. So I align as normal feet OK then pull my lead foot (left) back a full foot back from the line, so I feel really open - however when I check with a club across my shoulders they are now in line. I swing like this and the ball travels towards the target line.
It seems an exaggerated way of sorting it out, so am wondering if you have any other ideas why my shoulders should be so off parallel and any suggestions of getting it sorted out.
Would appreciate any input.
I am left eye dominant
Best wishes

Ivor

Hi Ivor,

Well good job in identifying your shoulders pointing to the right. That's definitely the first step in solving the problem.

Now about that open stance. Go ahead and use it for a while. It will teach you what a square and on-plane swing feels like. After you play for a while with an open stance you'll be able to square up you stance and hit the ball fine.

I've had the same problem. I was a draw player for 30+ years. I deliberately set up to play a draw. So my natural swing path was a bit inside to outside with my shoulder closed a bit. Well now with Symple Swing that's not helpful at all unless I want to push everything. So I had to learn to double check myself all the time. That's one of the reasons I do a Set-up Waggle http://simpleswing.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~332.asp every time as part of my pre-shot routine. It helps me make certain I'm square and on-plane.

I don't set up with an open stance much anymore. Although I will do it occasionally if I need to really protect against a draw or a hook. If I practiced a bit more I probably wouldn't need to do it at all.

So the answer to your question is, "Use the open stance as a training aid for a while to get you use to knowing what square feels like". After a while you should be able to square up your stance without a problem.

I hope this answers your question. If it doesn't please feel free to ask again.
