I went to the range last night and really tired to work on the issue that seem to keep me off track with consistent ball striking.
Head movement, spine angle, BS,DS position, swing plain, connection, full turn and not swaying, etc.
I hit my irons pretty well, fairway woods OK , a lot of work to do there. My Driver was much better,
I also went home and worked in front of a mirror in my basement and worked on keeping my head still and back over my trail knee, BS, finish position. etc.
I also am giving simple Putting another try. I practiced last night in my basement ans was making just about everything inside 10-12 ft. So I will give it a shot on the course this week.

I played again in the men's league on Wed. another very poor round. Very poor ball striking .
I went to the range today. Started out slow, then things began to pick up. I started out with wedges and was hitting them ok. Then went to full swing irons and was pulling them pretty bad or most of them. Tried hitting a 4 wood very little success. Same with driver.
I then went back to my 61 degree wedge. I made a big effort be sure I was turning my core and not swing with my arms. I thought i was doing that , but I found out different. When I started swinging with my core-shoulders and not any arms the ball was flying off that 61 wedge as far my 56 wedge and straighter. I then hit a few other irons with better results. then picked up the 4 wood again and tried keeping the arms completely passive and turning the core-shoulders and was killing the balls. Then the Driver, I had my struggles there pulling or hooking most shots. (still having problems with my full swing stance at times and Joe said i am rotating off my back hip and that kind of has me screwed up trying understand what i am doing right or wrong there) I went to the T-lock stance and finally started hitting some good Drives. then tried the regular full stance with some improvement .
I still find it hard to keep my arms out of the swing at times and this front -hip back hip thing has me screwed up quite a bit yet. |

If you're like me, you'll struggle with keeping those arms, shoulders, and hands passive for some time to come. Once you've ingrained the habit of using them, it takes much effort to eliminate that habit. Keep at it!
Re the hips, sometimes I will lift my left foot off the ground and replant it as I begin the downswing (practice swing only!). This reminds me of what it feels like to drive my weight into my left leg as I swing. It keeps me from spinning out on my back leg. When I spin out on my back leg I do what you do - pull or hook the ball. |

| I went to the range today again. hit my wedges very good. Pitching wedge with full swing GREAT. then went to 8 iron with full swing stance and it was not good. FAT shots one after another. Very few good shots. Went to a 4 wood only about one good shot Driver very poor. Hooks just plain bad shots . I am very struggling just wonder maybe some of us just can't get it. At least without in person lessons, and maybe a lot of them. I go to the range 3-4 days a week and am still a very VERY high handicapper. I live on a golf course and play once a week in my league. i am so bad I just don't even want to go out more and embarrass myself. |

My fat shots occur when I do 1 of 2 things: 1) setup with hunched shoulders/back. I must remember to stand as tall as I can over every shot and keep my head high. 2) Change the center of my swing, which is the back of my neck. 2a) If I move my head back away from target then I'll hit behind the ball. 2b) If I drop my head down toward the ball I'll hit behind the ball.
When I hit the ball fat, my prevalent problem is dropping the head down toward the ball on the downswing because it feels powerful to drop down and drive the club down into the ball. But it inevitably causes me to hit it bad. It always takes focus for me to keep the back of my neck in position so that I can swing around it without compensating with my hands, arms, or hips on the downswing. |
