I am a 30 handycap. I received my book the other day and read it twice and watched the videos twice. Yesterday after my AM appoinment I went to the indoor range that was nearby (it has been raining non-stop for 5 days straight). I started with chip shots and pitches. It was amazing. After I got all of the SS compnents down the balls were going nice & straight. I proceeded through my irons, to my 3 wood. I have never hit so many balls consistantly straight. Don't get me wrong I did have a few stray shots, but then I just made sure that I was going through the set up and my balls were flying straight again.

When I picked up my driver, I didn't get the same results. I have never been so bad with my driver. I focused on all of the setup procedures and still had poor results. I went back to my 3 wood, perfect. Picked up the driver again and it was ugly. I tried moving the ball forward, back, set the club head 6", 8", 12" behind the ball still no good.

I love hitting the driver long. In the past I have hit several greens on short par 4's from the tee. My problem has anlways been hitting it straight consistantly. I love it when I have the longest ball in the fairway. I know that when I figure out what is wrong, I will be able to this on a consistant basis. I also know that my game will already be much improved when hitting my irons, my short game and using the symple putt (worked great at the practice green).

Any advice on using the SS with my driver would be greatly appreciated.

Put the driver in the bag when playing then you be single handicap in no time.
However seriously,
check the swing plane.
Flat left wrist in BS position.

From 11hcp to tourpro level 2009?
Got it how to swing Symple. Same swing with superb puttning. Low 70 scores here I come!

Hi rotten72,

You're going have to give me a bit more information and then we'll be able to help. Telling me your driver shots were "ugly" doesn't tell me enough information.

Which way did the drives take off?
Which way did they curve?
What was the height like?
Were they hit in the center of the driver.

Normally I wouldn't recommend hitting driver the first day you learn a new swing. When guys pick up a driver it changes our brains and our primitive instinct take over. Now Symple Swing works really well with the driver but you have got to groove the swing first before you turn your animal brain loose on it.

You should hit the ball with the same swing with each club but many of us change our swing (trying to get extra muscles into the swing to get more distance) instead of just concentrating on making the same smooth swing each time.

It does sound like you're doing pretty good. Hang in there we will get you hitting the ball nice and long with Symple Swing.

Now just tell me a little more about your bad shots.

I had a similar experience. Chipping, irons 9 - 5 were straighter than when using my previous method. However, when I pulled out the driver, it got ugly. None of my shots had any loft. I kept the ball foward, moving it from even with my front foot to centered. Nothing seemed to help. I was hitting grounders and low line drives. The few times I did get the ball high in the air, it sliced horribly to the right.

I am holding on to the fact that the grounders and line drives were straight.

Any ideas?

Ned

Hi Rotten72,

There's a very simple explanation about your problem with the driver. Testosterone!

When we men get a driver into our hands, a rather primitive beast in us emerges and says "kill it". Most all guys overswing with their drivers. We want to hit it so hard that we get all kinds of extra muscles going in our swing.

Symple Swing will definitely give you more distance however you may have to lie to yourself and tell yourself that you have a three wood in your hand rather than your driver. Concentrate on a smooth swing just like you are doing with all your other clubs. Mentally it's hard to do that but it really works.

Symple Swing is a "SWING". We have you "swing the club" with your core (shoulders, chest & abdomen) rather than trying to hit the ball with arms. If you can hit your 3 wood okay it should note be very long before you'll get your driver going nice and long.

From the low shots you're getting I'm thinking your might be moving forward during your swing which delofts the club. Try the Shadow Drill http://simpleswing.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~647.asp or video your swing when hitting driver and see if you have some extra movement going on.

I'd be happy to review a video of your swing. If you have access to a digital still camera take some video clips of your swing and e-mail them to me. Tape a couple of swings from behind the ball (facing the target) and from the other side of the ball (facing you) If you have a video camera and you can get the file into a computer you can send large files to me by using www.pando.com Or you can just send me a video tape.

I hope this answers your question. If it doesn't please feel free to ask again.
