Hey hey, I had another personal best score tonight. I shot a 1 under par 34 in my league tonight. It wasn't my most consistent scoring night - I had 4 birdies and 3 bogeys - but I was especially pleased with the way I came back from adversity. After a 3 putt bogey (from 12') in the middle of the round, I shot birdie, birdie, bogey (when a tuft of grass pushed a perfectly good putt off line). So I was even par through 8 holes, and was staring at the most difficult hole on the course. But I hit a perfect drive, a perfect iron to 8', and drained the birdie to complete the -1 round.

I think I may have finally got the hang of Simple Putting. Over the weekend I had 15 putts for 9 holes, and today I had 14 putts even with that 3-putt in the middle. If that kind of putting continues, this will be a great year.

Great round, great effort.

Man, that putting will help you score, every time.

Well, for the 2nd time this week I've had a personal best on a particular course! Today I played 9 holes on a short, hilly course full of tall trees and blind shots. I battled for a +1, 37 after bogeying 3 of the first 4 holes (hit green with approach on all 3 but the green just didn't hold it). After that auspicious start, I managed a couple of birdies and a 16' par save on #8 before missing a birdie on #9 by an inch. I think my recent scoring surge is due to 3 things: 1) speeding my tempo from top of backswing to impact, 2) commitment to making a good judgment on every swing, no matter how long it takes to feel confident, and 3) adoption of the Simple Putter/Simple Putting. I came in with 14 putts today. I've never played this well in my life. Thanks SS!

That Simple Putter and technique will do it every time....I'm convinced.

Rob in Sunny Phoenix It rained the last 2 days and this morning it was 67 degrees on the back porch.

kb...I thought I was in Oregon! Or at daughter's place in Washington ! Beautiful !

Hi jclenden,

Good job. One of the good things that I see that you did really well was keep a positive attitude. I'm sure that was a major factor in your "coming back from adversity".

It's so easy to get upset about a bad drive, missed approach (rolling over the green) or even a bad putt (or a good putt hitting a tuft of grass). Even with Symple Swing YOU WILL HAVE BAD SHOTS. That's part of golf. I play with guys all the time who hit a fair amount of bad shots but who still score really well.

In my opinion the key is accept the bad shot but then think about it analytically. Try to identify why you had the bad shot and work to correct it. Too often I see golfers just say "I don't know why I had the bad shot". Yet if I ask them a couple of simple questions that they were more that knowledgeable enough to ask themselves then they can figure out what the problem is 90% of the time.

First thing to do when you have a bad shot (other than slamming your club on the ground) is to look at your divot. Your divot (or even lack of divot) can give you an amazing amount of information.

LOOKING AT YOUR DIVOT
1. Look at the direction of the divot
This will tell you which way your club was going through impact. You want a divot that is going pretty straight right at your target line.
2. Look a the shape of your divot.
You'd like to see a nice dollar bill shaped divot. The front end of the divot can tell you what the face of your club was doing through impact.

If you learn what your club head path was at impact and your learn what your club face was doing at impact you pretty much have all the information to figure what you did during your swing.

The "personal best" parade continued in my league tonight when I shot even par on the back nine. It was my best score ever on the back nine of this course. The aforementioned -1 was on the front nine. Last week I shot even on the front and this week even on the back. Does that count as even for 18 holes?

Anyway, as happy as I was I still felt a bit disappointed. On the last 3 holes my putts all lipped out. That even par could very easily have been -3 had the putts dropped, instead. I need to take my game to a more difficult course and see how it holds up. Today I hit 8/9 greens and 7/7 fairways. The course is losing it's challenge for me, which I suppose is a good thing. I'm thinking that my scores probably don't prove anything, except that my game has exceeded the challenge of this short par 69 course. I need to ramp up to something more challenging and see how my game holds up. Golf is a blast when everything is clicking pretty well like it is now!

Hi jclenden,

Good job. 8/9 greens and 7/7 fairways is great golf in anybody's book.
