Been out quite a few times recently with only a few clubs, 85 today with only 5. Lots of 86-89 scores with <7 clubs, and a 91 with all 14 last week.

18* Hybrid, 27* Hybrid, 8I, SW, Putter.

You should see the look on my buddies faces when they look in my bag.

If you havent got a club to get home in 2 you leave it short and still have a chance at par. You get to know those few clubs better and as your swing gets more grooved they behave more so you dont get into trouble quite so much.

Lots of tap in bogeys.

J

Hi jownz,

I have seen this (few clubs - good golf) happen with quite a number of students (and myself).

Part of this is I think is having fewer clubs in the bag forces better course management.

I recommend students play some rounds with fewer clubs because it teaches them to hit a variety of shots with each club. As kids growing up we use to go out and play without golf bags especially to play a couple holes just before dark. We just carried just a few clubs. It was a pain literally to carry more than 4-5. Playing with a few clubs taught me to play a wide variety of shots that average golfers seldom got to try. It was a badge of honor to beat someone who carried more clubs.

Just doing that on most long holes (even when you have a bag full of clubs) would probably save almost all golfers a couple of strokes a round. Most golfers get in a lot of trouble when trying to hit those "long shots" that they think they should be able to make. Testosterone posioning (which results in diminished mental capacity) is the cause of a lot of those extra strokes. Somehow when you have fewer clubs you don't feel your manhood is in jeopardy just because you don't try some ridiculously low percentage approach shot.

Good job.
