I have the Symple Swing DVD; the Short Game DVD, and I'm going to order the Putting DVD. I am a beginner and am getting comfortable off the tee, putting, pitching, and chipping. I need help with my fairway woods, 5-6-7 irons and my hybrids. Do I use the same swing? Where do I position the ball? Thanks!

Same swing. Middle of the stance or so with the ball position.
I use I7 to groove the basic swing, when that club works, I use that swing feeling/sensation for all clubs. Since the motion is the same you dont need all clubs for practice but to adjust for the lie obviously and length of shaft.
The same motion used in piteching/chipping are just lengthen for full swings. Go short backswing with the longer clubs until you have that motion down would be on practice idea.

Robert, Thanks for the quick reply! Check out my logic: If you use the very wide (square & flair)(80% weight on back foot)swing for the Driver; and the feet close together (80% weight on front foot)square stance for chipping. Does it make sense to use a square, inside the shoulders-wide stance, with equal weight on both feet for the Hybrids and 5-6-7 irons? |

Your logic is flawed Hybrids and normal irons same as driver. You can do/try the t-lock etc.. Just remember, the stance is done to make bodymovement flaws non existent.
100 yards and in, you an use chipping/pitching stance on left foot. Just need to calibrate distance with that stance. The rest, normal flare and lock.
Now, if you dont hit the ball well, videofilm it, check, sway, slide, on plane, head still etc... You most likely will have a movement that your not aware of.
I go trough everything since I know I cant trust how it feels, yet. Even when it feels right, that can be an old swing flaw, I judge the ball flight and the quality of the "ball meet club" sound. If this is the same, and power is missing and sound isnt properly, I video, check the basics, and re-train until its get right.
now, this takes time btw

patprof good questions/ all is covered in several of the dvd's - but to eliminate all confusion and to increase learning faster please call me asap and i will 'teach' all you need to know. in a nut shell -- all full swings, driver thru wedge use Power Set Stance/ scoring zone shots using wedge (pitching and chipping) from 1 yd off the green to 50 yds or so is feet together and weight forward. Now Club length dictates ball position. This is done by following our fundamental of left arm is extension of club shaft with butt end of grip always aiming at left armpit 'going up under' side of left arm. This allows you to address the ball with good posture #1/ with club soled correctly the length of club positions the ball for you. #2 all short irons ball position is going to be in middle of body (if you do this now you will see shaft angle and or grip of wedge is ahead of club face so with club soled or standing up by itself and with left arm extension of club shaft the ball has to be in mid point of torso .... #3 the longer the club or with your mid length clubs 'irons, hybrids' ball position will be forward (club again soled correctly and left arm extension of shaft (shaft angle and grip are now only slightly forward to ball position is just inside left shoulder, left pec area. #4 long shafted clubs, 3w and driver same procedure.......... ball position will be straight down from front shoulder (with driver even an inch forward of front shoulder to hit on upswing for more trajectory). Same swing for every club, same top of backswing position (see new dvd 'Own your Swing) same Power Triangle swinging club not hands, same weight back and post into front leg to avoid weight shift etc. now since we know clubs are 3 different lengths you will have 3 different swing planes but same swing for all clubs. this is what makes SPS so great is you can now learn to relax and repeat same swing allowing for more upright swing plane with short irons vs more flat swing plane with long shafted driver but same good posture at address, same top of backswing with left arm parallel to target line, same finish with right arm parallel to target line with finish high above left ear. whew, call me with any questions, easy to help over phone. look forward to hearing from you especially about progress as a beginner. good luck Mike O 407 340 9420 ps - flopper thanks for the help/ been tied up last 2 days with Symple Putter technology and prototype plus getting ready to do commercial for Golf Channel. let me know how it goes / later |

Mike-as I was printing out your response, one of your instructors (Chuck/North Dakota) called me. Spent over 45 minutes with me (long distance)! I used to teach "Customer Service" seminars in another life-but you guys are unbelievable. To say that I'm impressed is an understatement. Pat |
