Posted - June 27 2009 : 8:13:55 PM Today was a great day. It's been 6-8 weeks since I've had the opportunity to play 18 holes. As I've reported in other threads, I've been posting some really good 9 hole scores, but most of them have come on a short course that doesn't challenge your mid or long irons, and barely challenges your driver. It mostly requires good strategy, excellent wedge play, and good putting. I've been dying to see if my newfound success on that course would carry over to a regular length course for 18 holes.
Soooo, I went out and played my "home" course today. My previous best score there was an 81 last year. Today I shot a 75! I was even par through the first 9 but then my playing partners left. I was behind a foursome so I began to rush so I could play through them. Wouldn't you know it, I bogeyed the next 3 holes. But then I came back to my senses, slowed down, And grinded out pars for the next 6 holes. I had a 2 putt from 50+ feet and consecutive par saves from off the green on 16 and 17 before breezing through 18 for a +3, 75.
I've been working on SS for 2 years now and I now feel like I can really score with it. Last year I began to strike the ball well, hitting about 60% GIR by the end of the season, but I hadn't learned to score with it. Over the past 6 weeks I've learned to score, thanks in great part to Simple Putting.
Joe and Mike, you guys rock! |

Posted - June 28 2009 : 12:25:29 PM JC wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats for accomplishing greatness! I mean to be able to play to one's ability is all we can ask/ to play this most difficult of sports and 'master' it ie master a repeatable sound swing that produces straight shots or ones that go on intended target line. To play this game and play it well is a great feeling and I am very happy for you. We truly know that SPS is the key to great golf for the non professional (one who can practice 8 hrs a day getting the timing down with a conventional swing). You and I have the same similar paths to success, meaning Simple Putting also allowed me to finally score, SPS completely changed my game for the better and Simple Putting has made shooting great scores so much easier as over 40% of shots are putts.
keep up the great play, keep us updated / keep mastering 'the swing' and continue putting great! up next??? how consistent can you become? how do you learn to handle the adrenaline, slow down and repeat great swings.... actually play golf - play golf not work on finding a swing while on the course but repeat great swings and have some fun making pars.
thanks for the post MikeO |
