Posted - May 07 2009 : 12:24:43 AM practising with a long metal ruler down on the ground to check putter face squareness during the stroke, got me thinking - why not just attach the ruler to the top of the putter? so with some thin magnets and a 30cm steel ruler, that's what i did. a 28mm wide ruler neatly attaches to the top of the aiming line section of the putter. makes it easy to see during the stroke, if the putter is square.
it might help. |

Posted - August 20 2009 : 2:45:23 PM Hi Chucky,
I strongly suggest you put a line on your golf ball and then aim that line on your desired putting line. Then all you have to so is square up that putter to that line. That procedure works miracles on the course for many people.

Posted - August 18 2009 : 11:48:01 PM rusty, i did get a conway chalkline aid for about 35 bucks landed but it works fine at practice but i still have alignment problems on the course. had a great day putting sunday after an indifferent saturday. handicap still 16 so the putter hasnt brought the handicap down but i really do like the symple putter. i feel far more comfotable andmechanically much more sound but the bloody putts dont drop or when they do something else has happened on the way to the hole, bush off the tee flubbed chip or lousy pitch and when you sink the great putt the score is still the same bogey or worse. |

Posted - August 17 2009 : 10:21:00 PM ah, howdy Chucky!
nah i didn't end up getting the Conway Chalk line. i sent them a couple of emails without response, so thought it musta been too hard for 'em. i'm in Bris.
then it got me thinking - just rely on immediate feedback. so i do straight, slight uphill 6' putts. and then just notice where the ball goes.
i oscillate between 1. "yeah, i need every smart piece of training equipment available", to 2. "just hit the thing, and adjust things accordingly - this is getting too complicated".

Posted - May 07 2009 : 10:33:38 AM Hi Rusty,
Yes it would help but in the meantime there are some commercial alignment aids that do a reasonable job of helping with alignment.
Here's an example of one: http://www.conwaygolf.com/ It works reasonably well with the Symple Putter. You can adjust it so the line is directly over the line on the Symple Putter. That's pretty low tech but quite functional.
One slightly higher tech alignment aid is the Putting Laser Line See http://www.shop-safely.com/shops.asp?shop=trainingaids&pid=EG-PLL One thing you can do with a least some of the laser aimers is to mount them on something (cardboard box, etc) a foot or two directly behind the ball. Then the laser line can show directly from behind the putter and the ball right to the target (hole). Some folks seem to like that set up better than mounting the laser on the putter where it moves around all the time with the putter. The laser line just shines down the target line all the time.
